Chandler to Celebrate Inaugural Mardi Gras Festival
Chandler, Ariz. – Jan. 20, 2010 – The Downtown Chandler Community Foundation (DCCF) announced today that four Chandler high schools – Chandler, Hamilton, Basha and Perry – will assist in recreating Chandler’s version of “Bourbon Street” for the inaugural Mardi Gras Festival on February 6, 2010. Event organizers sought the assistance of the Chandler Unified School District to design the New Orleans style display art that decorates the parade route on the Promenade of San Marcos Place.
"We are very excited to get the community involved in this family-friendly event in Downtown Chandler," said Jeanne Forbis, chair of the DCCF. "This is the Foundation’s first official event and we are raising money to support critical community needs in the downtown area.”
The Mardi Gras Festival, scheduled from 6 pm to 11:30 pm., will include a walking parade, jazz music, dancing, costume contest and the crowning of the Mardi Gras King and Queen. The Mardi Gras Parade runs from di Sciacca Glassware to the Crowne Plaza San Marcos Resort at approximately 7:30 p.m.
Ticket prices for the Mardi Gras Festival are $75 per person, with all proceeds going to the DCCF. For tickets and event information, visit www.chandlermardigras.com.
